An Outbreak Of Cholera In The Village Where My Father Grew Up

from Elephant Corridors EP by Gods As Horses

/

lyrics

i was in the town where my forefathers
made their homes in the sands of the river
carried from the mountains of the north
the silt that gave life to the trees up north

when the rains fell it would seem like another world
when the rains fell the fish would be left on the shore
when the rains fell the river would bring with it all
the people of the west fled from their homes

he was 6 when they sent him away from home
before he went he would sit on the banks
watching the people settle on the other side
they had nothing they ate what they could find

even when the fish would rot they had nothing left
even when the water would be overrun with waste
even when the monsoons bring with it life and death
the people from the west would be piling us all high

in the funeral fires
